9 Facts You Need To Know About ACM Performer Jason Aldean

As the reigning ACMs Male Vocalist of the Year, Jason Aldean is certainly no stranger to the country music world. But there was a time when the “Night Train” artist almost gave up on a career in music. Before signing with label Broken Bow Records in 2005, Aldean got his start fronting local venues in high school, and later moved to Nashville at age 21. He was dropped from several recording contracts and ready to move back to Georgia when a scout saw him perform in a showcase at The Wildhorse Saloon. Five albums and 13 No. 1 hits later, Aldean is now one of the most well-known names in the industry. Before he takes the stage to perform at this year’s ACMs, get to know Jason Aldean even better with these nine fun facts (in honor of his lucky number):

1. He was born Jason Aldine Williams

He invented stage name Jason Aldean because Jason Williams was already the name of three popular basketball players at the time.

2. He owns hunting company Buck Commander

Fellow “Buckmen” include ACMs host Luke Bryan and Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty.

3. He turned down a baseball scholarship

After growing up dreaming of playing major-league baseball, Aldean turned down scholarship offers to play baseball in college in order to pursue music.

4. “Sweet Caroline” is his go-to karaoke song

Karaoke is one of Aldean’s favorite activities, and he has been known to sing anything from Neil Diamond to Otis Redding.

5. His first car was a beat-up ’85 Toyota pick-up truck, but he now drives a ’76 Bronco thanks to his pal Luke Bryan

Aldean says his first car “wasn’t pretty,” but it was enough to get him through high school and to gigs on weekends.

6. He is a major Georgia Bulldogs football fan

Aldean even owns a bulldog named Athens in honor of the University’s location.

7. He loves Bluke!

Or maybe just Luke…? It’s no secret that Aldean and Bryan are good buds but I’m sure their next call was to invite Blake Shelton down to the range to shoot with them.

8. Elvis Presley is his celebrity doppelganger

A high school girlfriend’s mom first told Aldean he resembled the king of rock ‘n’ roll when he was 17. I guess we kind of see it…?

9. His lucky number is 9

Nine was Aldean’s baseball number in high school.
