ACMs New Artist of the Year nominee Kip Moore is quickly rising in the ranks of country music. But for this South Georgia-born surfer dubbed the “hillbilly Springsteen,” awards and fame have never been the end game.
“I think a lot of people come into this wanting to be a star,” Moore said. “That was never me. My thing was I wanted to be the greatest writer.”
On the songwriting front, it’s clear Moore is doing something right. His 2012 debut album Up All Night produced the intensely singable top 5 tracks “Beer Money” and “Hey Pretty Girl,” as well as No. 1 hit “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck.” And his latest single “Young Love,” from a soon-to-be announced sophomore album, is quickly climbing the charts.
Moore, who spent years studying songwriter sessions in Nashville, has a hand in writing each of his songs. Beyond his own music, he has also co-written a handful of popular country anthems for artists like Thompson Square and James Wesley.
“I just want to move people,” Moore said. “I want to make them feel something in their gut, in their soul. That’s what I strive for as an artist.”
Moore will bring his lyrics to life when he performs live at this year’s ACM Fan Jam. Moore is nominated along with fellow Fan Jam performers Brett Eldredge and Justin Moore for the fan-voted New Artist of the Year award that will be revealed during the live broadcast on April 6. The three finalists were chosen from a group of eight semifinalists that included Lee Brice, Tyler Farr, Kacey Musgraves, Thomas Rhett and Parmalee.
