FOR MORRIS, IT ALL STARTED WITH A SONG
Four Grammy nominations and a trophy for Best Solo Country Performance is a pretty epic way to kick off 2017--not to mention a primetime performance with Alicia Keys! Maren Morris’ new year is off with a bang after hitting the charts this past year with her debut single “My Church” and the fun-loving “80s Mercedes.” But what fans may not know is that prior to stardom, Maren spent several years in Nashville as a songwriter for a number of well recognized names.
Originally from Texas, Morris scored a publishing job with Big Yellow Dog in 2013 and packed her bags. Tim McGraw was the first to record one of her songs, “Last Turn Home,” that would make it onto his Sundown Heaven Town album.
“To have Tim be the first person to ever cut one of my songs was just the purest form of validation,” Morris told People.
Following McGraw, Kelly Clarkson recorded Morris’ co-write with Shane McAnally, “Second Wind.” Additionally, Morris has several song credits on the television series Nashville.
Morris is currently promoting her debut album on the 2017 Hero Tour.
